There are times in our life when we are called into deeper reflection, more supportive self-care, and the space to re-define possibility for ourselves on a deep soul level.
These times often occur for us during transitionary moments in our life, which can be both inspiring and also downright necessary. Sometimes those moments in life call to us after an illness or a death. Sometimes it’s a nagging that’s been there for years, and finally, we just can’t ignore or numb it away any longer. And sometimes it’s a new phase on our timeline that feels important to us, such as a birthday or a profoundly new perspective/way of being that has soaked into our bones.
The reason for the call doesn’t matter as much as your intention for answering it - your willingness to lean into the whisper of your souls call and do the work it takes to bring your full self to the world. It’s this sort of reckoning, renewal, and reinvention that leads us to the fulfillment and freedom we seek, but you’ve got to be clear on three things if you’re to dive in with depth, honesty, and whole-hearted courage…
…It makes me think of a poetic Japanese art form, called Kintsugi or Kintsukuroi. It means ‘golden mend’ and is known as the art of precious scars. It repairs broken pottery with a glue that is mixed with powdered gold so that the broken parts are illuminated and honored. The philosophy is that breakage is part of the pottery’s history and is not something to hide or disguise. Its imperfection makes the piece more unique. The mess is considered an opportunity for beauty to emerge in a way that takes the art to new heights. The thread of its story deepens and the depth of its life becomes an inspiration for all those who get to witness it.
…When we do the deep work of connecting with our old beliefs and ways of being from the past, turning our ‘mess’ into our message, and re-writing the stories we most want to live into, we can see the path forward more clearly and are then able to lead from a place of deep work, rather than hard work.
From here, there is a truth and a freedom that enables us to…
…It’s as though we are going through a collective shift that is calling us all deeper into our truth. Deeper into our capacity to hold and be held. Deeper into the courage it will take to listen closer. Deeper into the depths of our potential and ability to truly love ourselves and others…to love not only what is delightful, but what is also difficult.
Our life is a dynamic and ever evolving work of art. It’s full of mystery and magic, pleasure and pain, seeking and surety. And what I know in my bones is this…we are not here to find anything (happiness, purpose, meaning, love)…we are here to CREATE it.
Are you living the life you know you’re meant to live or do you secretly feel envious of others success or adventures?
Do you wake up excited for your day ahead or do you feel lackluster about it, even dread it?
Are you challenged in all the right ways, leaning into your growth edge and feeling enlivened by the obstacles in front of you…or do you feel a heavy internal force holding you back from taking powerful action towards your potential?
Do you make lemonade when life gives you lemons, or do you fall into a rut of self-defeating habits when your world is painted yellow?
…In a world where we’re told that ‘faster, bigger, better’ is success and ‘having it all together’ is what will make you happy - it’s no wonder we tend to avoid exposing our messy truths, in particular, the messy truths of change…
…However, when we live, love, and lead from this place, we feel whole and undivided within ourselves. We become untangled, we are more clear and confident about our next steps, and we feel the sweet notes of our unique existence (harmony) in both the tension and the release of our life.
So today I’m sharing with you a process I created to help you discover and define your core values.
…Yet, those things didn’t lead me to lasting happiness either.
Again and again, I had chosen a very different approach to life, yet there I was…confused, ashamed to admit the truth, even to myself, thinking, “Why am I not happier?” I ran in the opposite direction, yet ended up exactly where I was seeing everyone else. Unfulfilled.
Purpose - a sense of meaningful accomplishment and contribution that truly feels like a gift to ourself and to the world…because we know that living is giving and change making belongs to all of us.
We are the Seekers of “what else is possible?”
Presence - a deeper connection to who we are in this world, what our values are, how we want to show up, and a clear roadmap for continued growth…because we know this precious life of ours is a perennial journey and who we are being always, always precedes what we do.
We are the Devotees of depth.
Peace of mind - a confidence that resides from within enabling us to lean into the messy as much as the marvelous. There is a feeling of sacred celebration for this life that leads us to act without attachment (we are more curious than afraid), to see our goals not as a place to arrive at, but rather, a place to come from, and to do the work (even when it’s hard)….because we trust, no matter what, we will be okay.
We are the Changemakers courageous enough to bring our full self to the world.
“Most people live a Reported on Life. “The economy is tough… My boss is unfair… My boyfriend doesn’t understand me…” They react to life. Often they complain about it. “Life’s unfair… It’s alright for them… I wish I had your opportunities…” But there is another way to approach life….”
It’s one thing to fulfill our deepest aspirations, but it’s a whole other thing to arrive there with levity, courage, and joy. In today’s short video above, I share with you one of the most powerful things I have learned on my journey to fulfillment.
I consider myself a world traveler, with countries like Brazil, Peru, Nicaragua, and Thailand gracing my well-worn passport. Yet, the United States, the country I was born in an lived most of my life, was a country I had done very little exploring within…
In today’s very first Mentor Musings VLOG, I share five SOULutions to filter through all your big, beautiful ideas and how to take aligned action, when you feel a lack of motivation and follow through.
When I was a young girl I had a neurological disorder that created a lot of confusion in my brain, and thus my little world. I didn't see things as most saw them and I didn't process things as most processed them. When I tried to explain my perspective, it was often received with frustration and confusion by others. Because of this, I often felt very alone in the world...even when I wasn't.
I sat with it and felt it in my bones - the anger, the love, the sadness, the conviction, and ultimately…the peace it generated in the depths of me. I journaled on it. I spoke about it. I created my work in the world based on it.
I know who I am and what I’m made of, because of it.
Have you ever felt like life was so ‘on the go’ that you didn’t realize just how deeply tired you were, until a circumstance (good or bad) presented itself, carving out the space for you to notice the depth of it?
