A tension melting ritual you can do in 20-minutes a week

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that make all the difference. Wouldn’t you agree?

I LOVE rituals - morning rituals. evening rituals. quarterly rituals. They feel like poetry to me in that they reframe the mundane into an opportunity for Holy self-expression.

Rituals teach us to slow down, become truly present, and listen deeper. They become containers for us to reconnect with what is sacred and tender to us in general or in that particular season of our precious life.

One of the simple weekly rituals I have (and has been such a beautiful process of putting self-love into action) is taking a bath.

The way I do it is what makes it a ritual and not ‘just a bath.’

First, I create my own DIY salts to soak in. I usually make a bulk amount (see my ingredients below), and then scoop one cup of that mixture into my bath.

INGREDIENTS

3 cups Epsom salts (aka magnesium sulfate)

1/2 cup coarse sea salt (such a pink Himalayan sea salt)

1/2 cup baking soda

20 drops essential oils of your choice (I like 10 drops lavender + 10 drops of eucalyptus)

Optional: Handful of fresh or dried flowers

There is anecdotal evidence that suggests this mixture helps draw out toxins, relax muscles, lowers stress-related hormones, and balance PH levels. And from my experience as well, I feel deeply relaxed and released after a 20-minute soak in this pleasurable potion. As the bath is filling, I light candles, lower the lights, and set up a heart-warming podcast to listen to. Often they are longer than my bath, so I continue listening as I dry off, put my robe on, and lie in bed.

Some podcasts that I love are:

Unlocking Us by Brene Brown

Unspoken by Ruthie Lindsey & Miles Adcox

Devotion by Nisha Moodley

I often find Sunday evenings to be a wonderful time for this ritual (a re-set for the week ahead), though any night (or morning) of the week works well.

I’m curious. Do you have any favorite rituals? Do you have a favorite podcast? Let me know in the comments what you’re up to (ritual-wise) and/or what you’re listening to (podcast-wise) these days! I’d love to add to my collection.

To get the MOST out of your ritual bath, I suggest a movement practice beforehand. I’ve developed a soulful, powerful, and deeply releasing practice called Dynamic Release Method. In August I’m offering this 90-minute practice 2x’s a week virtually:

Tuesdays at 4:30pm PST / 7:30pm EST

Sundays at 5:30pm PST / 8:30pm EST
