How to maintain your energy at higher levels

The other day I was reading something that reminded me of Einsteins greatest discovery, E=MC2 (Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared). This formula tells us that everything is energy. On the most basic level, the equation says that energy and mass (matter) are interchangeable; they are different forms of the same thing.

A more eloquent way to put it, "we live in a pulsating, vibrating Universe of 'advanced harmonics.' Everything that exists - in your air, in your dirt, in your water, and in your bodies, is vibration in motion." -Ester Hicks

I'm sure this thought brings about different ideas, but for me, it speaks to the power we have to impact our lives when we learn to harness our energy - since that's essentially what we are.

Cultivation and management of our energy is about input and output in everything we do and be. It's directed first and foremost through our presence (mindfulness).

From the media we take in ('garbage in, garbage out'), to the rituals we have,  the relationships we show up for, and the thoughts and beliefs we perpetuate - our energy is either being siphoned, suppressed, or supported.

When the energy is seeping in too many directions (or the wrong direction) or is blocked in some way, we feel tired and burnt out (our internal 'light bulb' burns out when we no longer have sufficient energy flow). And friends, it's a very human experience for this to happen. In fact, it helps us learn what works for us and doesn't work for us...the key is to learn (and change those inefficient patterns/habits).

One tool that can drastically support you in maintaining higher levels of energy has to do with the way you think about balance.

In fact, 'work/life balance' is a hot topic in the personal development industry. I've always found this to be interesting, as it compartmentalizes the two (work and life) as though they are two different things. As if we're not living our life when working?

Attempting to live and lead a 'balanced' life can not only be an overwhelming pursuit in of itself, but it can also stunt our growth. And honestly, it's a bit more idealized than practical. What resonates more with me, even softens my shoulders, is to live a 'counterbalanced' life. Think of it like riding a bike, the energy we're putting out is one of counterbalance - this is what keeps us upright and moving forward. In the beginning, it can feel arduous, but rather quickly we learn how to work with the energy of counterbalance, and before we know it, moving forward meets us with more ease.

When you live a counterbalanced life, the focus is not on whether or not you go out of balance, but how long you stay there (just like when riding a bike). What's so refreshing to me about this perspective, is that there is an acceptance, that at times, your life will be out of balance. The key is to know and own those moments as much as you possibly can. There are times in our life when we want to stretch ourselves, we want to grow, we have big goals and dreams to move towards - in these moments it is implicit that we will feel a bit off balance. We just can't let ourself live there for too long - or we will, undoubtedly, burn out.

So the key is to learn your personal rhythm of sustainability (and know this will likely change within different 'seasons' of your life). Time management is more often than not, about energy management. It's about learning the rituals, the practices, the people, the thoughts, the messages, the tools, the timeframes needed for you to stabilize, to assimilate, and to re-set.
